Butterfly Design Inspiration for Throw Blanket and Quilt

When I began to think about my very first design for Sew Meaningful, I knew that it had to incorporate butterflies. This design is a tribute to my mother, Dorothy. This is why the name of this design is named after her.

The Story behind "The Dorothy Design":

On May 29, 2018 at 5 AM, I picked my mother up to drive her to the hospital for a heart procedure. We knew that her heart valves were not working as they should.  She had Rheumatic Fever as a child which affected her heart valves. She already had 2 valve replacements performed in past years. What I did not know was, as they rolled her down the hall for her procedure, that would be the last time that I would see my mother alive. As the hours passed everything went from bad to worse. The procedure did not work and her only hope was to be taken right into open heart surgery. The dedicated surgeons worked diligently but after the valve was replaced successfully, they could not control her bleeding and she ultimately bled to death on the operating table.

The words that I am writing could never begin to express what a wonderful human being she was. Her gentle spirit, loving deeds, unfailing love, and faith in God were just a few of her unforgettable attributes. She loved her family with all of her heart. We were her reason for overcoming many obstacles in her life.

Mom always wanted a framed butterfly piece of art for her home which she never purchased for herself. During the editing process of my design, my sister Sherry, suggested to make the background color purple to make the butterflies pop out from the design. I thought that it was a great idea. As I drove home from her house that day, I began to think about the color purple. The Bible speaks of the color purple symbolizing authority and royalty. There could not be a better color for "The Dorothy" design....she was my authority throughout my childhood and was royalty to me! Lastly, the butterfly represents life. This design is in honor of my mother's life. Now, my mother has a piece of art for you to pass on as a unique sentimental gift for others that can be personalized with what you want to say to them.

The average butterfly life span is only a few weeks with the longest being about 11 months. With that being said, I hope that you do not let time pass and put off letting someone know how much they mean to you. Now is the time...not tomorrow, next week, or even the next holiday to share your heart. Whether you purchase one of my throw blankets or quilts does not matter in the long run. What does matter today is that you don't wait until it is too late to share your feelings.

So, my dear mom, this design is for you! I know that you would be so honored and proud of "The Dorothy" design.
